We wanted to let you know that we are now able to begin phasing in outdoor athletic opportunities for our students.
We have been given the green-light to restart soccer and cross-country teams as soon as February 1st with very specific health and safety protocols. SPS will be strictly adhering to offering sports specifically approved by OSAA. As the infection rate in our county decreases and we demonstrate the success of our safety procedures in limiting the transmission of COVID-19 we will look to bring other sports back as well.
Our teams have gone to great lengths to establish safe practices to maintain the health and safety of our student-athlete, staff and our community. We look forward to providing safe athletic experiences as we all know the benefits participating in sports has on the health and wellbeing of our students.
The district has placed a “Return to Athletics” page on the “Return to Learn” section of the website should you wish to review answers to frequently asked questions, links to OSAA guidance, along with the safety practices that will be in place to support the athletic programs.
This small step that has been identified as a lower risk for participants and coaches, reminds us that we are nearing a time of reconnection with our students.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
